Installation

HALO 22 is a work conceived by artist Emilio Ferro. It is an installation composed of a metal base and an upper glass structure that projects a beam of light onto the wall in front of it.

The light beam, through a mechanism of lenses guided by an algorithm, creates an optical illusion that generates constantly changing shapes and effects: a solar halo, a living process in continuous evolution.

The installation explores and celebrates the atmospheric phenomenon of the 22° Halo, a rare moment when a circular halo embraces the sun. This occurs when the sky, at an altitude of 6,000-12,000 meters, is covered by cirrus clouds, stratified clouds containing tiny ice crystals.

The work behaves like a machine that emulates nature: once activated, it comes to life and generates unique visions each time, in a cycle that evolves autonomously, as if endowed with a latent consciousness. The device reflects on the relationship between machine and nature, questioning the moment when, as with artificial intelligence, what has been created by humans might surpass its creators, developing a life of its own.

HALO 22 thus becomes a bridge between science and contemplation, between order and mystery: a luminous organism that invites the viewer to lose themselves in the hypnotic rhythm of light, in a perceptual experience that suspends time and opens the gaze to the invisible.
